Guys,

i just came across this bbc story:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6952558.stm

so what does the church recommend women do who carry the child of a rapist, or are forced to become pregnant at gunpoint? i can see it's not fair to the child, but it ain't fair on the mother, either. what to do?

In my opinion, to resort to abortion in cases like that is to add a second terrible action to the first one.  I would hope that the woman could find the strength to have mercy on the child and allow it to live.
it is a tough call, though. you can't legislate mercy. but i think by and large the demand that life be not destroyed outweighs all others.

This is not a tough call.

I always struggled with rape and incest until I heard the testimonies of women who have been through this.  Those who chose life are much happier.  Amazingly, but as JM correctly points out, women who also abort are living a double pain.  This convinced me that life is always the right choice.  I can find this (MP3) if you are interested.

agreed. i would just like to point out that i haven't ever been raped, and i have no means of knowing or empathizing with people who have. it's easy to be just and generous in MY situation...
